To dachshunds mouthing is just a means of expression - by taking your hand into his mouth to get your attention, but in much gentler way than a bite. And it is necessary to keep under control this mouthing practice of your miniature dachshund at the early stage.

Often dachshund puppies mouth our hands when excited or when playing and puppies usually do this more to children than adults. And you have to control this habit of your puppy. You can try the steps mentioned below to train your dog pup.

In the beginning, a dachsund will use his mouth to investigate his surroundings. During the teething process, it gives the dog relief to chew on all kinds of things, no matter how hard it is.

Providing appropriate objects for a dachshund to concentrate on can sometimes be a simple method of solving a mouthing problem. Indestructible chew toys like large nylon bones or hard rubber Kongs can supply a positive outlet for mouthing. Large rawhide bones and carrots can be put in the freezer and given to a teething puppy. Braided fiber bones immersed in chicken broth or water and then frozen are also a good option.

If your puppy is chewing on you, the instant the pressure increases use your "hurt puppy' noise leaving your hand in his mouth. Once the pressure is released, gradually remove your hand.

One of the best method to be friendly with your puppy is by giving back of your hand so that she can lick, by this method she gets familiarized with you and realizes that you are the caretaker.

If the puppy cooperates you, it is recommended to praise his cooperation. You can also train him to act on your gestures.

Does your puppy begin mouthing you if you don't play when he wants to? Is he constantly tripping you up, or starting to play tug-o-war with the leash when you're trying to walk him? Is he uncooperative when you direct him to do something like not to jump or bite? If the answer is yes, you may have a tyrant or dominant pup. With this kind of pup you may need to exercise a little more discipline.
